The Casual half-choke collar is intended for obedient adult dogs. It is also known as a half-check collar. Half-choke collars are preferred by some owners of heavy coated dogs because they don’t mark the neck coat as much as a standard collar. Agility dog owners can easily take off the collar and leash when ready to run a course.

It’s easy and quick to put on with a leash attached, and doesn’t require fiddling with a buckle or clip. Another advantage is that the dog cannot easily slip the collar. If the dog is startled and pulls away, the collar can’t go over its head.

The half-choke collar should be just the right size for the dog. It’s the right size when it fits over the dog’s head, but is firmly placed around the neck when pulling on the leash. The indicated collar size, or maximum of the size range, is how far the collar can extend, so the dog’s head cannot be bigger than that.
